Burro is a dark kitchen launched by Pina. The objective was to create a visual identity that embodies the warmth, intensity, and spiced character of Mexican cuisine. The brand needed to feel human, vibrant, and authentic while remaining bold and contemporary. The main constraints were a limited budget and a tight deadline. The visual system therefore had to be efficient to produce, adaptable across digital platforms, and impactful without relying on heavy production costs. The challenge was to translate the emotional and sensory richness of Mexican food into a strong yet streamlined visual language.

To respond to the budget and time constraints, I developed a flexible illustration-based system instead of relying on costly print techniques. I created a series of small custom illustrations designed to dress packaging paper, stickers, and various brand touchpoints. This approach allowed the brand to build a strong visual presence while keeping production costs low. We chose to work with a artistic direction inspired by Aztec forms. I designed a distinctive character set that became the foundation of the identity. From this base, I expanded the system into a library of graphic shapes and symbols referencing recognizable Mexican visual codes. The result was a modular and reusable visual toolkit. It allowed Burro to maintain consistency across applications while also integrating elements that could be reused in Pina’s main restaurants, ensuring coherence within the broader brand ecosystem.
